The existing conductors supported by this steel lattice tower needed to be raised in order to maintain adequate ground clearance due to new construction at this property. Paul J. Ford and Company was tasked with designing a cage extension in order to raise the existing conductors an additional 15 feet above ground level.
Paul J. Ford and Company worked with the utility to develop the loading conditions needed to analyze the tower with the new extension. Once the loads were determined, PJF designed, modeled, and analyzed the tower with the new cage extension in the computer program TOWER. Once the design was confirmed, the detailed fabrication drawings for the extension were created by PJF.
Construction personnel installed the cage extension resulting in increased conductor to ground clearance to satisfy code clearance requirements for the changed conditions at the property.
