Dr. John Wilson, PE, SE

Dr. John Wilson graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1965 and began his career at Paul J. Ford & Company one year later while attending graduate school at The Ohio State University. After earning his doctoral degree in 1969, he began working full-time for the firm. The following year, he taught a structural design course at Ohio University’s Architecture Department. He obtained his first Professional Engineer registration in Ohio in 1971.

From 1966 to 1981, John’s posts at the company included Structural Engineer, Project Manager, and Vice President. He was named President in 1981, and then Chairman & CEO in 1992. As Chairman, John maintains regular communication with all of the Officers and Department Managers to coordinate and lead the efforts of Paul J Ford & Company.

John served on the Coalition of American Structural Engineers National Guidelines Committee, the body that drafted the National Practice Guidelines for the Structural Engineer of Record. The guidelines are intended to enhance the quality of engineering services, provide a basis for negotiating fair and reasonable compensation, and clarify the structural engineer’s scope of services. John has also served as National Director from Ohio to the National Society of Professional Engineers and as President of the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers.

David Hawkins, PE

David Hawkins joined Paul J. Ford & Company in 1985, shortly after earning his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, and later a Master of Science degree, from The Ohio State University. After working on building structures for several years, David managed the company’s work on communications monopoles and helped develop software to support that work, including PJF_Pole™, which improves the analysis and design of monopoles, and WebOpen™, which is used to analyze and design web penetrations in steel beams based on the AISC Design Guide 2. In 2015, David was promoted to Vice President of the Tower Structures Group. In 2016, David was promoted to President.

David is a member of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) and actively participates in the TIA subcommittee TR-14.7 "Structural Standards for Steel Antenna Towers and Antenna Supporting Structures." He served as chair of the monopole design subcommittee for TR-14.7 Task Group 2 on the TIA-222-G Standard, as chair of the TR-14.7 sub-task group on monopole base plates, and currently serves as chair of the subcommittee on monopole reinforcing. He is a member of the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and serves on the ASCE Athletic Field Lighting Structures committee. He is a licensed professional engineer in 12 states and licensed civil engineer in CA. He holds a US Patent (No. 6,901,717) for a monopole reinforcing system that utilizes a bolted-on brace and clamp system and currently has several patents pending related to reinforcing systems and components, including the FORGBolt® blind bolt used in monopole reinforcing systems.

Brian Greene, CPA

Brian Greene has been with Paul J. Ford & Company since 2008. He earned his CPA in 1988 after graduating from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree. He worked for large regional public accounting firms for 10 years before advancing his career in industry. He honed his accounting skills working in a variety of markets, including fast food, commercial printing, distribution, marketing, manufacturing, and professional services. He has held posts that include Controller, Vice President of Operations, and Chief Financial Officer.

Brian Starrett, PE, SE

Brian Starrett began his career with Paul J. Ford & Company in 2003 as a Project Engineer in the Communication Tower Group, after relocating from Arizona. In 2005, he transferred to the company’s Architectural Group where he was promoted to Project Manager. In 2013, Brian was promoted to Department Manager of the Architectural Group and currently oversees projects in the Columbus and Orlando offices.

Brian is a member of the Structural Engineers Association of Ohio (SEAO), the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) and the American Institute of Architecture – Ohio (AIA). He is a licensed professional engineer in 12 states and licensed structural engineer in two states. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree from Ohio Northern University.

William Mitzo joined Paul J. Ford & Company in 2013 to work in the Architectural Building Structures group, under Brian Starrett.  Bill came to PJF after managing his own structural engineering firm since 1993. After graduating from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering, Bill worked as a structural engineer in Miami until 1980. In 1980 he joined a structural engineering firm in Winter Park, Florida as a senior engineer and in 1988 was made partner where he remained until opening his own firm. As Engineering Manager, Bill now manages the Architectural Building Structures staff for PJF in both the Columbus and Orlando offices.

Bill is a member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and the Post Tensioning Institute (PTI) and is licensed as a professional engineer in seven (7) states and is a licensed Special Inspector (SI) in Florida.

GREG KLAPHEKE, PE, SE

Greg Klapheke earned a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree from the University of Dayton in 1978. He worked for a structural engineering firm for 5 years in Dayton, Ohio prior to joining Paul J. Ford & Company in 1985 after completing his MBA from the University of Cincinnati.

Greg was named an Engineering Manager in 2007. He has worked on a variety of projects in his 30 plus years with PJF, gaining experience in the design of offices, medical facilities, schools, and retail structures.

Greg is currently the Engineering Manager of the Retail Group,  overseeing design work for various retail clients including Limited Brands (Victoria’s Secret, Bath & Body Works, La Senza, Henri Bendel, PINK), Charles Schwab, Coldwater Creek, DSW, Express, Chico’s, Nike factory Stores, Banana Republic and Ulta.

Greg is a licensed professional engineer (PE) in 4 states, and a licensed structural engineer (SE) in 2 states. He is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), AISC and AISI/CFSEI.

Justin Kline joined Paul J. Ford & Company in 2005 to work in the Monopole Structures Group, under Dave Hawkins. Justin was involved in the development of emerging monopole upgrade solutions and stealth monopole designs.  Justin came to PJF after experience working on building structures since graduating in 1999 from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.  In 2008, Justin was promoted to Project Manager and oversaw the management of the modification design work and development of department design standards.  In 2015, Justin was promoted to Engineering Manager of the Monopole Structures Group. As Engineering Manager, Justin oversees all of the production operations of the monopole group.

JUSTIN RUH, PE

Justin Ruh graduated from Clemson University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering degree. He joined the Lattice Tower group at Paul J. Ford & Company in 2006 where he was trained and mentored by Kevin Bauman, PE, who is a former President of PJF and a 40 year veteran of the communications tower industry. Throughout Justin’s time at PJF he has performed complex analysis, design, and modifications of lattice towers. Justin took on a trainer role in 2009 and has subsequently trained many of the current PJF tower department engineers. In 2016, Justin was promoted to Engineering Manager of the Lattice Tower Structures Group. As Engineering Manager, Justin oversees the production operations of the lattice tower group.

CHAD HINES, PE, SE

Chad Hines joined Paul J. Ford & Company in 2008 as a Project Engineer in the Utility Structures Department.  In 2012, Chad was promoted to Project Manager and in 2015 he was promoted to Engineering Manager.  As an Engineering Manager, Chad oversees the engineering and project operations for the Utility Structures group and also the Tower Structures group project coordination team.  Prior to coming to Paul J. Ford & Company, Chad spent five (5) years working for consulting engineering firms as a structural engineer for building projects.

Chad is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC).  He is a licensed professional engineer (PE) in three (3) states and licensed structural engineer (SE) in one (1) state.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana Wesleyan University and a Master of Science in Engineering from Youngstown State University.

CHRIS WARDELL

Chris Wardell joined Paul J. Ford & Company in 2001 after spending a year as a consultant developing custom engineering software for PJF.  Chris left in 2003 to start his own software development company and then returned to PJF in 2014 as a Software Development Project Manager. In 2016, Chris was promoted to Director of Information Technology.  As Director of IT, Chris oversees all of PJF’s IT infrastructure and operations.  Prior to joining Paul J. Ford & Company, Chris spent 13 years at a major shipping company with roles in Information Services and Industrial Engineering implementing and supporting automation and tracking systems.

Chris holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Technology from Franklin University.

Chris is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM).

JOHN WERNER

John Werner began his career with Paul J. Ford & Company in 2014 as the Program Manager of the Tower Structures Group. As a past client, and critical thinker, John functions as both the voice of the client within PJF and also as a creative advisor to our clients.

Prior to PJF, John was Project Manager Real Estate, Construction & Engineering for AT&T Mobility.  He also was the Market Manager for an AT&T Mobility Regional Turf Vendor.  John was the Market Manager for Sprint’s Network Vision program and had the highest KPI rated office of General Dynamic’s thirteen national facilities. Previously, John was the Microwave Deployment Program Manager for seven states in Verizon Wireless’s Northeast Region.
