Project Engineer I (Telecom)

Paul J. Ford & Company is seeking a licensed (P.E.) Project Engineer I in our Columbus, Ohio Office. The ideal candidate will have structural engineering experience.

Position Summary

Project Engineer I works closely with more experienced engineers and can complete routine projects with minimal supervision. The Project Engineer I, in role of project leader, may handle some project management tasks but will primarily work on technical aspects within the established time frame and budget.

Essential Functions
  • Serves as a project engineer with some autonomy for project related tasks and as a designated client contact.
  • Responsible for project schedules and timely completion of projects within a specified budget.
  • Develop project objectives by reviewing proposals.
  • Develop fee proposals with the assistance of the Project Manager (PM).
  • Prepare engineering studies and schematic designs.
  • Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications, and structural reports.
  • Work closely with CAD Technicians to complete tasks.
  • Understand project and state stamping requirements.
  • Assist in the education and development of younger engineers and act as a resource for technical questions.

Project Engineer

Paul J. Ford & Company is seeking a licensed (P.E.) Project Engineer in our Columbus, Ohio Office.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Performs structural engineering design calculations and prepares structural engineering documents.
  • Performs structural engineering designs in accordance with applicable Building Codes and Standards.
  • Maintains effective communication with clients, architects, contractors, team members, and others during projects on a regular basis.
  • Directs CAD technicians in the production of drawings.
  • Manages multiple projects on a regular basis in a fast-paced environment to produce projects on time and on budget.
  • Attends client meetings, and travels to project sites for assessing field conditions and observations.

Candidates must be capable of performing structural analysis on various building elements and materials including, but not limited to, light gage metal framing, reinforced concrete, structural steel, wood, and reinforced masonry. Since this position requires working directly with clients, candidates must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and possess a professional demeanor at all times, and have the ability to work well with others in a team environment. In addition, this position may require frequent travel to assess existing field conditions, perform field services prior to design, and field observations during construction. Candidate must be willing and able to work overtime as required to meet project deadlines and client requirements.

Candidates must have a Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering with at least five (5) years of experience in structural design. Candidate must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident and have passed the Professional Engineering Exam and be a licensed professional engineer (P.E.).

Structural Designer

Paul J. Ford & Company is seeking a Structural Designer for the Columbus, Ohio office.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform structural design calculations for new telecommunications structures and foundations.
  • Perform structural analysis calculations for existing telecommunications structures and foundations.
  • Perform structural modification design and analysis for existing telecommunications structures and foundations.
  • Read, analyze and understand the specific project scope of the work.
  • Attend and perform site visits when needed.
  • Work with licensed engineers to review and revise the calculations and designs as needed.
  • Provide assistance in the preparation of proposals.
  • Have the ability to assist other departments as needed.

Candidates must have a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a concentration in structures and two to five years of experience, or be a recent graduate with advance knowledge in concrete and steel design. A licensed PE is preferred but not required. Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.
